A byproduct of complex systems is that no subsystem or component will independently produce the evolutionary adaptation and innovation required for that individual component to survive. No individual node in a graph or person in society will be a self-sufficient, independent silo-island. The human body, adapted to the cycles of the solar system (top-down), must endure a higher and higher opportunity costs, the deeper the expertise and the more complex the evolutionary adaptation and innovation.
